My Advice On Living The Nomadic Lifestyle

I understand living the nomadic lifestyle isn’t for everyone. Often times, living the nomad life can be glamorized and some people just may not be cut out to live the life.

I may not have lived the nomad life as long as others have, but I’ve had a lot of learning experiences that I wanted to share with you, especially to those who are thinking about living the nomadic lifestyle.

Here is my advice on living the nomadic lifestyle.

Be prepared to live the life of uncertainty

Living the nomadic lifestyle is the definition of going with the flow. You’re going to run into a lot of things that you aren’t going to expect: car troubles, traveling delays, you name it.

My advice is to be prepared to live the life of uncertainty. I know that many sound scary for some; however, I find myself embracing these challenges because I know I will always learn something from them.

It’s also just a great life lesson to learn.

So be prepared to walk into the unknown, but don’t be scared of it because you might find yourself pleasantly surprised!

Learn to live like a minimalist

Ok, ok, I’ll admit.

I have like two large suitcases and a couple of duffle bags; however, I’m still not able to fit my whole wardrobe into these bags.

Regardless, you’ll have to learn to live like a minimalist when you step into the nomadic lifestyle. I mean, I guess you can bring dozens of bags if you want, but it’ll make your travels a pain in the *ss if anything!

Traveling has made me learn a life of minimalism without me realizing it and honestly, I’m looking back at a lot of the things I’ve packed away and thought “Why do I have all this stuff anyways!?”

I don’t think we realize how much unnecessary stuff we actually have.

So, if you don’t mind living like a minimalist, then bring stuff that will benefit you in your travels!

Get creative with your meal plans

Going out to eat isn’t always realistic for anyone traveling, so you’ll have to learn to get creative with your meal plans!

Find meals that you don’t mind having every day or every-so-often.

Make sure to get your nutrition and find foods that are either easy to microwave (since most hotels have a microwave) or cold foods to put in the fridge.

Snacks are great too and if you don’t mind just snacking at where you are staying. Most places usually have free breakfast, so take advantage of what they have to offer!

Coming from someone whose first job was working at a hotel, you’ll be surprised how much food goes to waste!

Start to love your own company (if you travel solo)

So, I don’t travel alone, but my husband used to travel alone all the time before I came along with him. I’ve learned from him that you really have to learn to love your own company and make friends wherever you go.

I don’t have a ton of advice on this one since I am not a solo traveler myself, but what my husband got really good at making friends out of nowhere. Of course, if you have friends and family members back at home who would love to hear your travels, please reach out to them.

I’m sure they would love to hear what you’ve been up to!

If you go to the same places for your meals, try getting friendly with the workers!

My husband says this helped bring him entertainment into his days!

Have money saved up for emergencies

Like I said before, you’re going to run into quite a bit of uncertainties throughout your nomadic lifestyle, so make sure you have money saved up for emergencies!

After all, you wouldn’t want to be stranded somewhere!

Or if anything ever happened to you or you need something in the moment, it’s best to be prepared with an emergency fund!

I mean I feel like this is pretty obvious, but I still wanted to mention it.

Give yourself the time to be more present

Traveling is a lot of fun and it’s very spontaneous!

Especially when you are living the nomadic lifestyle, it kind of forces you to be more present in the moment.

After all, sometimes you only get these once in the lifetime chances!

When you are living life with structure and sometimes get yourself out of a fast-paced environment, we forget to give ourselves time to be more present in the moment and actually enjoy our travels.

So, make sure to find time in your days to just enjoy and be in the present moment because living the nomadic lifestyle is a cool opportunity that some would love to live!

Plan ahead if you travel with pets

I travel with two cats and my husband and I always have to plan ahead with them along.

So, when we were traveling in hotels, we had to make sure to find a place that allowed pets.

We also had to make sure we order their food at the right location within the time frame (we order their food online). In case there is anything we need to get for them, we had to make sure we find a place that’s close to a pet store or a retail store.

It can be a lot of work, but if you love your fur babies, I’d assume you would do anything to make sure they get to be with you!

Now, I have no experience with traveling with the cats outside of the country.

Personally, for me, I wouldn’t do it because that would just be so stressful for them and I would be terrified if something happened to them in another country.

In my opinion, when my husband and I travel outside of the country, we have family members who can watch them.

My only advice on this is to have backup plans set in place for your fur baby.

It’s not that much different than traveling with children.
