Living a healthy, fit lifestyle will always be one of the top priorities for me and living the RV lifestyle hasn’t stop me from achieving my priorities.
Of course, staying fit while living the RV lifestyle can be a challenge, especially since you’ll be living in a smaller space.
However, since living this lifestyle, I have managed to always make it work!
And for those who are wanting to get fit, these tips are great for limited space in your camper, as well as give you some ideas to try out to get going on your fitness journey!
Here’s how to stay fit while living the RV lifestyle!
Do some research on which gyms are the most common in the states. Of course, do some research on their memberships, how much it’ll cost, and just in case you do have to cancel it for some reason, make sure you know the ins and outs of that situation.
I personally have a gym membership and my husband and I stay at places for long periods of time, so it’s worked best for us and our schedules. We will usually get memberships at the gyms that are the closest to our location.
If you find yourself having to stay in more rural and remote areas, check out their rec centers and see what they have there!
Smaller towns will sometimes have fitness centers that hold classes as well!
Another tip: some school gyms are also available after school hours.
Make sure to talk to the school administration when it comes to using their gyms!
Resistance bands are great to slowly build up muscle and you can easily get these in stores.
Resistance bands are great to start incorporating resistance training and with slower tempo exercises, you can actually get more toned. I know there is some debate in the fitness community about whether solely using resistance bands can tone you up and I find that it can definitely work if you work your sets until failure.
For me, I personally prefer to do my last few sets until failure, which means to work your reps until you completely exhaust your muscles. This way, you’ll be able to put tension on your muscle and allow them to actually grow.
You might have to do this, especially if you start to get used to your usual reps.
You can do these inside your camper or even outside.
In fact, you can easily wrap this resistance bands to the outside of your camper (such as the handles or stairs) to create more resistance in your workouts!
GoFit Power Loop Resistance Bands
These bands are a great start if you are JUST getting into the habit of working out. Once you get used to using these, you can either up your reps and “train till failure” or you can upgrade to stronger, thicker bands. I still used these for warm-up purposes though!
Any GoFit products I’ve ever used always came with a booklet which is handy for anyone who is a beginner!
GoFit Ultimate ProGym (Portable Fitness Equipment)
I thought these resistance bands were SO cool and I use the ones from the gym when it comes to warm-ups. Again, these are great for beginners and if you were camping in the middle of nowhere or if you are just NOWHERE near a gym, there are many ways to workout with resistance bands.
These can be tied to a door or heck, even a freaking tree if you don’t want to use the door.
I love that these have ankle straps so that, not only can you train your upper body, but your lower body as well!
Investing in adjustable dumbbell sets may be costly, but so well worth it given the space you’ll have versus having multiple sets of separate dumbbells.
You can easily turn the dial to any weight you want and do your workout.
They even have adjustable barbells and kettle bells if that is something you are interested in!
There are many ways you can work out with dumbbells and many fitness influencers have proven that you don’t necessarily need to go into a gym as long as you have a nice pair of dumbbells!
So, if you are wanting to get more into weightlifting, adjustable dumbbells will be a great investment for you!
Please note: if you buy dumbbells online, that the price reflects either one dumbbell or an actually set of dumbbells.
Biggest complaint I see online is that people think they are getting a set of dumbbells when they are really only getting the price of one dumbbell.
Make sure to read the descriptions and ask sellers if you are ever unsure of something.
I will admit, I hate cardio (especially the treadmill), BUT I saw a fellow RV lifestyle influencer buy a foldable treadmill and thought it was a cool idea if you want to do cardio in your camper!
My advice though would be to start slow to avoid getting hurt. The influencer that advertised the foldable treadmill she was using didn’t have anything to hold onto. Personally, I highly recommend getting one where you can hold onto something.
Although I love the foldable treadmill idea, your safety is important.
I would fall off it if I didn’t have any handles.
If anything, having fun outside is always free and a great way to explore, whether that’d be going on hiking trails, swimming in lakes, going on a simple walk in the woods, kayaking, biking, and other endless options!
I am a major hiker and talk a lot about my hiking adventures on my blog, so check those out if you are also a fellow hiker!
You can always find something to do outside and at least you won’t get bored with the scenery!
So, get some comfortable shoes and have some fun in mother nature!
