Common Things You'll Have To Replace On Your Motorhome

Let’s be so for real…

When it comes to the rv lifestyle, living in a motorhome can have its ups and downs.

The biggest lesson that most people find themselves in, when it comes to the rv life, is that you have to get REAL hands-on when it comes to fixing anything in a motorhome.

Especially if you travel around, you will find yourself having to do a lot of maintenance on your camper home.

We’ve been on this lifestyle for a few years now and luckily, my husband was already someone who is really great at fixing anything, but from experience, I still wanted to explain to you some of the most common things you may run across on your rv home!

Therefore, here are common things you’ll have to replace on your motorhome!

Water heater

So far, we’ve had to replace our water heater about three times now. It’s really not as hard as you think nor is it an expensive thing to buy.

One of the things that’s important for you to do before traveling with your camper is to make sure the water heater is turned off, so you’re not burning out the water heater when it’s not being in use.

That’s one of the easiest ways to keep the water heater lasting longer.

Other than that, you can buy the part almost at any hardware store, camping store, even at some retail stores as well!

It’s pretty inexpensive to replace, so if you do find yourself having to replace the water heater, don’t freak out about the cost.

And honestly, no need to pay anyone to do this. It’s as simple as replacing a plug in the heater and all campers have easy access to this plug through the panels installed outside of your motorhome!

Toilet seals

Again, another easy replacement that camping stores like Camping World have in stock.

Toilet seals will just naturally wear down, especially with the excessive use of them.

We’ve only had to do this once, mainly because we were completely replacing both the toilets in our camper.

This may or may not happen to you, depending on how old your camper is and how often you use it, such as whether you use it for rv living purposes or just for the seasonal glamping.

It’s as simple as unscrewing the toilet itself and from there, you’ll see the toilet seal.

Just have to pop it out and put a new one back in!

And voila, you have a working toilet that doesn’t leak!

Fuses

Fuses are just something that, again, will go out in a motorhome.

Luckily, every single camper has access to the fuse box and no, there is no need to be some electrician to replace a fuse.

I’ve replaced fuses almost several times now and you can easily get a box of fuses at Walmart or probably any hardware store. Personally, I got mine at Walmart, which was inexpensive and I have plenty of fuses to make it last for a long time.

Having a handy dandy box of fuses in your motorhome is something to consider putting in your toolbox, just in case you need to replace it on your rv travels!

Tires

Of course, when you’re traveling around rv camper, at one point, you may have to replace a tire or two.

I know for us, we find our tires going flat by the time we have to move to the next location, which is why having a tire pump is handy.

It won’t hurt to have a kit where you can plug up any holes in the tire, either that, or I’m sure you can find a tire place near you who can do it for you.

I know eventually, we’ll have to replace our tires, as they have been through some rough terrain and places under construction, which often lead to punctured holes in the tires.

Again, it’s important to just have the necessary rv gadgets handy in case your tires need some fixing. At least many rvs have spare tires in case of emergencies.

Water filter

I know not everyone uses a water filter, but if you are like us, we do use one, because you never know what’s in your water nowadays.

Every time you use a water filter, whether you use it up by the time you move to your next location or every three months, you’ll want to replace your motorhome with a new water filter.

For sanitary reasons…. obviously.

Sometimes, you can buy water filters in a pack, but even if a pack isn’t available, water filters are pretty inexpensive and just something that is natural to replace.

No different than replacing a filter on a Brita.
