It’s no surprise that Colorado is a popular state to go to for all your vacation needs, whether that’s hiking, skiing, shopping, you name it!
I’ve been to Colorado quite a few times already and this time, my husband and I decided to go for a mini vacation during the cold, winter season.
So of course, as frequent hikers, it wasn’t possible to go out in nature like we would usually do, but if you ever wonder what there is to do during the Colorado winter, then here are some of my suggestions.
Here are things to do during the Colorado winter!
I know it sounds crazy, but going to the hot springs during winter is actually perfect because the temperatures in the water compared to the hot spring makes a nice, relaxing combination with the cool breeze of the Colorado winter.
This was one of the biggest highlights of my trip because this hot spring was on my vision board for YEARS and I finally got to go.
The Strawberry Park Hot Springs is located in Steamboat Springs and you’re going to find yourself needed to get there with a vehicle that has four-wheel drive since the hill going up to the hot springs can be pretty steep.
So please, keep this in mind.
You will also have to make reservations with them either by calling them or going to their website, since these hot springs are quite popular and can get crowded very easily.
One of the things you’ll notice at these hot springs is that different areas of the hot springs have different temperatures, so if you are someone who has to slowly get used to high temperatures, there are different parts of the hot springs that can help you ease into the warmth.
They also have another side of the hot springs that is basically really cold water (not many people went into this side by the way), so if you want to challenge yourself to a cold plunge, then this is the way to do it (by the way, I was one of the few people who did this).
They do have changing rooms for you to go to and my recommendation, which I wish I did but didn’t, would be to have some sandals or shoes that are easy to slip into because you might find yourself walking on a snowy and icy platform.
And to be honest, I don’t like the feeling of ice on my wet feet.
Yikes!
Estes Park has a lot of tourism that you can shop to your heart’s desires!
I did end up getting a few things, but one of my favorite recommendations that I kept going back to was a place called Laura’s Fine Candies.
This place has an assortment of sweets, from different flavors of caramel apples to mouth-watering taffy!
One of my personal favorites was the candied apple which is basically a granny smith apple covered in a layer of thick hard candy, so you get the pleasant taste of a sour apple with sweetness to it!
Check them out if you are ever having a sweet tooth craving!
If you are a wine lover or if you ever want any ideas for a cute girl’s night out, then Snowy Peaks Winery is a great place for that!
Most of the wine from this winery is specially made there and you have the option of wine tasting five different wines.
You will be given a menu of their wines to try out and get to choose five of your liking.
And if you are someone who doesn’t know their wine, they do have descriptions of what their wine tastes like, so if you are more of someone who likes a sweet tasting wine, you’ll be able to distinguish which wine is which.
You also have the choice of making your own charcuterie board which you will get a menu for that also.
You can choose to try out more wine or if you find one of your likings, you can buy a bottle and take it home with you.
Even my husband, who isn’t much of a wine person, took a few bottles of wine home that he absolutely loved.
Give it a try if you are wanting a variety of wine tasting experiences!
So, I don’t have pictures of where my husband and I went (especially since this was a private and intimate experience), but both of us definitely needed a good massage.
A good place we went to was Estes Park Massage. The place was a little bit tricky to find because we have to go through a walkway to get to the front door, but we were able to have a great couple’s massage there!
They have a wide variety of different massages ranging from massages that are specifically targeted for your hands and feet, to even getting energy work done.
How cool is that?
My husband and I felt great afterwards and whether you are with your partner or by yourself, I really loved this place for a good, deep tissue massage!
If you are ever in Estes Park with your family and want some great family time, The Bull Pin was a fun place for bowling!
This bowling alley also has a section for arcade games, as well as a little sports grill/bar area for all your adult beverage needs.
We went bowling to kill some time and although I absolutely suck at bowling, we had a great time.
The Bull Pin was a great place for children!
ATTENTION ALL COFFEE LOVERS!
If you want to have coffee alongside a hundred ducks, then Coffee On The Rocks is the place to go.
Yes, this place is like any other coffee shop, but one of the differences with this one is their pond full of ducks.
Seriously, you have to be careful with where you walk because they are EVERYWHERE!
You have the chance to feed them with a small fee and I feel this is a cute experience for your kids if they aren’t completely terrified of ducks.
Just be aware that they will swarm you when they see you have food in your hands.
Other than that, the coffee and food was nice and the experience was fun for my husband and I.
